The Monument «History of Georgia» (Sakartvelo Matiani) is also called Georgia Stonehedge because it looks very similiar to the English place of interest.
Creation
It was created for almost 20 years (from 1985 to 2003) and it has not being finished yet – only some elements are left. The creator of this “piece of art” is Zurab Tsereteli – a sculpturer that is famous in Georgia and many other countries. In his life, he created many monuments that are important for the historical aspect of other countries.
Structure
The monument consists of 16 colons from copper and bronze. They are 35 meters high.
All the colons are divided into three parts:
- The lower one – here are the scenes from Bible.
- The middle one - there are depicted many important for history of Georgia persons – from the saint to the tsars and poets.
- The higher one – celebration of different dates, the harvesting and common scenes are here.
The colons are built in such a way that when you look at them from the above, you will see a cross,
The best way to get
The monument is located in Tbilisi – 13 kilometers from the city center that does not make it easy to get to the monument.
If you use public transport services, you will need to get to the monument with the help of two buses.
